The Best Diaper Backpacks for Twins

As a lover of the diaper backpack (as opposed to other styles of diaper bags), I’ve researched the options on the market quite a bit to provide you with my opinion of what the best diaper backpacks for twins are right now. My favorite diaper backpack is the Mancro Baby Diaper Bag because of its size, layout, compartments, and construction. Here’s more about this best diaper backpack for twins and my other favorite diaper backpacks.

Besides storage, you need a diaper bag that is machine washable because kids are messy!  And diaper bags can quickly and often need washed.  The Mancro Baby Diaper Bag can be thrown into a washing machine, while the Parker Baby Diaper Backpack, HaloVa Diaper Bag, and Bag Nation Diaper Bag are not machine washable.

I looked at many different diaper backpacks, but my favorite is the Mancro Baby Diaper Bag. Naturally, there are many factors that go into selecting a favorite, so here is an explanation of why I think this one is the absolute best.

It’s roomy.

As a parent of twins, you’re going to need a whole lot of room. There are many items that you’ll want to carry in your twin’s diaper bag. Here’s a list of what I consider essential:

  • diapers,
  • wipes,
  • changing pad,
  • nail care kit,
  • burp cloths,
  • blankets,
  • spare clothes,
  • favorite toys,
  • formula or breast milk,
  • bottles with caps,
  • pacifiers,
  • bibs,
  • plastic diaper bags, and
  • any diapering lotions or creams that you might need.

Some additional items that you may want to plan to carry are your breast pump, wallet, keys, phone, camera, and food for you. That’s a lot of stuff. Then, multiply some of that by two!

The Mancro Baby Diaper Bag measures 15 x 10.8 x 4.9 inches. It’s large enough to fit everything you need, but not so huge that it would be uncomfortable to wear.

Although this backpack is very spacious, it’s still small enough to classify as a carry-on bag. So, if you’re looking for a large diaper backpack for travel, this one is perfect!

It has lots of compartments.

There are 13 pockets, 1 large thermal-insulated pocket, and 1 diaper wipes pocket dispenser. All of these pockets allow you to separate and organize your items.

This early organization can be very important. You may have already realized that the ability to quickly find a bottle, pacifier or favorite toy can prevent an epic meltdown. Personally, I prioritized the prized items and kept them in an external pocket whenever possible.

Also, I want to take a moment to talk about the thermal-insulated pocket. Although there is two insulated pockets (some other backpacks have more), these pockets are quite large. You should be able to fit two bottles into this one bag with ease.

Plus, since these pockets are external, if you have any spills or leaks, the mess should be easier to clean. A spill in an external pocket instead of in an internal pocket can mean the difference between having to wipe one pocket clean versus having to wash your whole diaper bag and all of its contents. Trust me.

External pockets are a blessing. And, although the external thermal-insulated pockets are fantastic, no external pocket is as important as the diaper wipe pocket. When you’re in the thick of it, you will not want to be sorting through your twin’s diaper bag to track down your wipes. You’ll want them to be external and very easily accessible.

Easy access to your items.

I love that it’s easy to access all your diaper bag items in the Mancro Large Baby Diaper Bag. Sometimes, baby bags for twins boast a high number of organizational pockets, but they all seem to be at the bottom of the bag. To find what you’re looking for, you may actually have to remove items from your bag.

This can also be the case if the opening to the diaper bag is too narrow. Diaper bags with a narrow opening make it more difficult to find what you’re searching for. Plus, they make it even harder to remove the item once you’ve found it.

On the flip side, beware of the very large opening. The last thing you want is to dump your bag when you’re trying to remove a necessary item.

It looks like a basic backpack.

If it looks like a regular backpack, it is probably more likely that your husband will wear it. And if your husband is wearing the diaper backpack, it means that you aren’t.

Another benefit to a diaper backpack over other styles of baby bags for twins is that, with a backpack, your whole diaper bag on your back. This leaves your hands completely free to carry your children, open doors, or deal with whatever else life may throw at you.

Padded double straps reduce your shoulder, neck, and back pain.

With two straps, the weight of your diaper bag is more evenly distributed. This weight distribution can greatly impact your spinal and muscular health. Studies have shown that wearing both straps of a backpack will reduce shoulder, neck, and back pain caused by carrying heavyweights.

It can clip onto your stroller.

This backpack comes with sturdy straps with plastic clips that can secure your diaper bag to your stroller handle. The design of the backpack allows easy access to your most important items without invading your leg space for walking.

No velcro.

This backpack has no velcro. Velcro can wear down and stick to your clothes. For this reason, the folks at Mancro decided to use zippers and magnetic locks.

It’s washable.

Messes will happen. Although I don’t have twins, I’m going to guess that double the kids mean double the mess. Diaper bags especially need to be able to be cleaned.

If you think about it, your diaper bag is carrying many things that you will put in the mouths of your kids; and you’ll set it in some of the nastiest places on earth. Your diaper bag will go on the floors of restaurants and in some filthy bathrooms. However, because this backpack is easily cleaned, you can relax knowing that you can clean off whatever germs you may have accumulated.

This backpack is made of Nylon, so it’s able to be scrubbed off easily. I would stick to hand washing just to make sure that everything cleans up and stays intact.

It’s waterproof.

The last thing you want is an external spill to completely soak through or ruin your diaper bag. That’s why it’s essential to have a waterproof bag. You want to ensure that the contents of your bag stay safe and clean, no matter what’s happening.

It comes with free gifts.

This twin diaper backpack comes with a machine washable 24″ x 12″ changing pad and a baby laundry bag.

It comes with a lifetime warranty.

If there are issues with a year of your purchase, there is a one-year replacement, lifetime warranty. For anyone not completely satisfied with their purchase, there is a 100% refund as long as you contact the company within 90 days of purchase.

The customer service is outstanding.

Whenever I shop for something, I always read customer reviews. In particular, I look to see what people love, but also what they identify as a problem or issue.

Although there weren’t very many issues with this bag (which is great), I was very surprised at how quickly the company itself answered consumer questions and resolved customer complaints. One person even wrote about how they had purchased the bag through Amazon and had an issue with their bag outside of the Amazon time limit for returns. The company wanted to rectify the situation, so they went outside of Amazon policy and sent the consumer a new diaper backpack.

Hap Tim Diaper Backpack

Hap Tim Multi-function Baby Diaper Bag Backpack Stroller Straps- Insulated Pockets- Changing Pad Included, Nylon Fabric Large Capacity Waterproof Nappy Changing Bag for Moms & Dads, Gray(5279-G)

Oh my, the Hap Tim Diaper Backpack is lovely! Just imagining myself wearing this makes me feel both cooler and smarter. Plus, this diaper backpack has a different interior design from the others.

Features:

This diaper backpack has 13 pockets and a large inside compartment. 3 of the pockets are insulated to keep bottles and food warm or cool.

There is a security pocket on the back that is up against your back when you wear it to be anti-theft. It has a handle so you can carry it like a bag, shoulder straps which are pretty comfortable, and stroller straps to connect to the back of a stroller you are pushing.

This is a low-ish priced backpack so the quality is not the absolute highest. However, the quality is good for the price and most people are happy with the fabric and durability.

Drawbacks:

Although it is rare, the stitching holding the main shoulder straps sometimes comes out which makes it useless as a backpack.

Parker Baby Diaper Backpack

Parker Baby Diaper Backpack - Large Diaper Bag with Insulated Pockets, Stroller Straps and Changing Pad -

Quality
Popularity

The Parker Baby Diaper Backpack was created by a family with twins, so you know right out the gate that it’s going to work great for twins! With a stylish design and a respectable price, it may very well be the only diaper bag you’ll ever need.

Features:

This reasonably priced diaper backpack offers 5 exterior pockets and more than 10 interior pockets. Two of those exterior pockets are insulated bottle pockets. With over 15 useful pockets, there is a place for everything.

There is only one large compartment, but it has a space for everything. There is a separate zippered section within for the diapers and wipes because you’ll need to access those quickly. It also comes with a waterproof changing pad to keep in there. There’s even a laptop sleeve for things you want to keep protected (like a tablet or phone!).

However, the best part is the mommy pocket upfront. It’s so easy to lose our stuff in the depths of a diaper bag, but the mommy compartment on the front has us covered. It even has a keyring inside to keep those pesky keys from disappearing.

This backpack is made of water-resistant canvas with lovely vegan leather accents. The inside is an easily wiped-down and water-resistant polyester.  It’s also ready to work hands-free and attach to a stroller with durable stroller straps. With thick, padded straps, you will find this backpack extra comfortable.

Drawbacks:

Again, this is another diaper backpack that is not machine washable. I’m just not a fan of spot cleaning because with my kids when they make a mess, it’s not just in one spot.

Also, the flap can get a little annoying. No quick reaching into the big compartment because you have to move the flap first. Fine for when you need a bottle, not fine for when you need something else.

HaloVa Diaper Bag Backpack

HaloVa Diaper Bag, Baby Daddy Mommy Travel Backpack with Wet Cloth, Tissues, Bottle Pockets, with Stroller Straps, Brown
Price$$
Popularity

The HaloVa Diaper Bag is my runner-up. I love that it has a low zipper to allow access to the items in the bottom of your bag without rummaging through the whole thing, but that’s not the only perk to this backpack.

Features:

The HaloVa Diaper Bag is very large (18.5 x 8.3 x 10.6 inches).

With a side pocket for wipes and several other convenient storage spaces for items like your phone, this diaper backpack offers plenty of storage. There is a pocket on the front with three insulated bottle holders that will keep milk warm for two to four hours.

I love the “fish mouth opening” design that allows you to easily rummage through your bag without having to unload everything. It offers access to your items from the top and also from a zipper located on the lower part of the back panel.

This diaper backpack has sixteen colors available. Many of those colors are very bright or fun, and there are also some very neutral and classy options. This backpack is made of water-resistant nylon and offers padded shoulder straps and a limited lifetime guarantee of replacement.

This backpack also features an area for wet and dry separation. Plus, it has multiple straps for multiple ways to carry your bag. And, at current prices, it’s practically a steal!

Drawbacks:

It doesn’t seem that any of the straps are actually removable. So, while you do get to choose whether you use this bag as a backpack or purse, all the straps will remain intact throughout.

Yet again, I have reservations about how a diaper backpack that can’t be machine washed will look after several months of use.

Also, this baby bag for twins doesn’t come with a changing pad.

Bag Nation Diaper Bag Backpack

The Bag Nation Diaper Bag Backpack comes with stroller straps, a changing pad, and a sundry bag. This makes it a perfect on-the-go bag.

Features:

The spacious backpack boasts 14 pockets, including one external insulated pocket large enough to hold two bottles. They also provide an external pocket for easy wipe access.

The provided stroller straps make it easy to clip this large bag on to your stroller and go. This is important because a backpack for twins may not fit beneath your stroller in the storage bin.

This backpack is made of water-resistant twill polyester, which is stronger than cloth. With non-fray stitching and strong zippers, this backpack should last for a long time.

In fact, the manufacturers are so sure of their construction that they offer a lifetime warranty. Simply contact them if you have any issues or concerns.

Drawbacks:

Again, another backpack that isn’t machine washable. Because of the zippers and stitching, the manufacturer recommends that you spot clean with a damp cloth. Anyone who has kids though will tell you that sometimes spot cleaning just won’t do it.

Best Large Diaper Backpacks for Twins

Cost is definitely a consideration for purchasing a diaper backpack. The Itzy Ritzy Diaper Bag Backpack and the JuJuBe Diaper Backpack come with a higher price tag than theSkip Hop Diaper Backpack and the Vogshow Waterproof Diaper Bag Backpack.

The Itzy Ritzy Diaper Bag Backpack can be opened like a suitcase. This allows you to fully unzip your backpack from top to bottom, the whole way around, to access whatever it is that you might need.

Features:

This backpack offers 17 total compartments! That includes 2 insulated bottle holders, a valuables pocket, and a parent pocket. There is also a convenient side pocket for a drink.

The main pocket of the backpack unzips like a suitcase, allowing you access to the contents without removing items from your backpack.

You’ll also get stroller clips and a changing pad. The changing pad has a secret pocket for storage on the back of the backpack, so it’s easy to get to. It also will give your back a little extra padding!

It’s made from polyester and wool with vegan leather accents and has a rubberized bottom for grip and stability.

Drawbacks:

The manufacturer recommends spot cleaning this backpack. It is definitely not the easiest material to clean!

The price is very high for this backpack. It may be out of reach for some families, but if you can afford it, you’ll be beyond pleased with the quality and durability and features.

Skip Hop Mainframe Diaper Backpack

The Skip Hop Mainframe Diaper Bag Backpack is a stylish and very roomy option. It opens up wide to fit everything you need while being made by a reliable and well-loved brand.

Features:

This backpack has a large opening that will stay open while you are rummaging through your things. The main compartment has some elasticized pockets and some zippered pockets. It also has a spot for the included changing pad.

The exterior features two insulated side bottle pockets and two zippered compartments, one of which has a cell phone section and is the perfect parent pocket.

There are backpack straps, 2 top grab handles, and the ability to switch to a messenger bag if needed. I personally like this versatility, especially as kids grow and situations change. There are also stroller straps for easy toting while strolling.

This bag measures 14.25 x 6.25 x 14.75 inches, so it’s a great size for carrying double of everything.

Drawbacks:

The spot-clean polyester is pretty, but not the easiest to get stains out of.

Also, the straps are just nylon and have no padding. Not good for big, heavy bags!

Vogshow Diaper Bag Backpack

The Vogshow Diaper Bag Backpack is a unique backpack ready to function in multiple ways and hold enough for twins, with a separate compartment for each kid!

Features:

This backpack for twins offers what no other one on this list can: two separate compartments. With the unique design, you have the option to zipper off the upper and lower halves and make them separate. Don’t like that or need something different for a special trip? Open it up to become one big compartment again! The choice is yours!

This backpack has tons of pockets, including a side wipes pocket, a side bottle pocket, a rear pocket with its own padded sleeve and wet clothes pocket, and then of course the huge main compartment with pockets inside. There are also two external pockets, each accessible from opposite sides, that allow you to store important items (such as your phone) outside of the main diaper backpack area. Oh, and did I mention the two insulated bottle pockets on the interior that are removable?

The simple, square design is stylish and appealing, and the two dark color options help make this backpack a stylish choice for either parent.

The oxford material is waterproof! Metal details help to improve the overall quality of the bag as do the extra top handle ready to increase the usefulness of the bag. Add-in padded shoulder straps and a bonus chest strap to keep the shoulder straps on so you can use the diaper bag any way you need, including hands-free.

Overall, the bag measures 17.3 x 12.6 x 7.8 inches, which is plenty big enough for all the diapers, extra clothing, bottles, formula, and even a few of your items, too.

Drawbacks:

The bag can not be washed in the machine.

There aren’t any stroller straps, which is disappointing since a bag this size is likely too big for the lower storage basket of many strollers. And while we are talking about straps, I have a love/hate for the chest strap. It’s fine when you want it, but most of the time it just gets in the way. Also, for moms with a larger chest, it is very uncomfortable!

JuJuBe B.F.F. Diaper Backpack

JuJuBe | BFF Baby Diaper Bag Backpack - Convertible Messenger Bag Travel Backpack for Women - Machine Washable | Indigo Chromatics
Price$$$$
Quality
Popularity

The JuJuBe B.F.F. Diaper Backpack is yet another classy and stylish diaper backpack.

Features:

JuJuBe diaper bags are known for being the cream of the crop. They are a bit more expensive than other options, but that’s for good reason – these things are loaded with features.

This is a messenger bag/backpack hybrid that works really well for older twin babies or toddler twins. It measures 12 x 14 x 6.5, so it’s a pretty good size. Add into that that 4 of the pockets are gusseted for expandability, and you can fit everything you need!

The main compartment has 3 zippered pockets, plus there are 2 bottle pockets with 3M Thinsulate insulation, a mom pocket with a place to hang your keys and a soft pocket for glasses, and finally, a cell phone pocket that’s easy to get to.

Other perks include memory foam messenger strap, memory foam changing pad, Agion-treated interior for bacteria resistance, Teflon-treated polyester fabric on the outside for stain prevention, machine washability, a crumb drain, and all-metal hardware.

And in case you need just a little bit more, the B.F.F. is available in over 16 colors to suit anyone’s style.

This diaper bag for twins has a limited lifetime warranty!

Drawbacks:

This bag is very expensive compared to other choices on this list. But you get what you pay for!

The shoulder straps are hard to adjust. And for some, they found the phone pocket to be too small for larger smartphones.

Best Diaper Backpack for Dad

HSD Diaper Bag

HighSpeedDaddy Baby Diaper Bag Backpack PLUS Diaper Changing Mat - Extra Large Capacity Bag with Integrated Stroller/Luggage Strap + Insulated Holders - High Grade Multi-Purpose Bag for Dads & Moms
Price$$$$
Quality
Popularity

Yes, Daddy is in the brand name (HSD stands for High Speed Daddy), but this tactical-style HSD Backpack Diaper Bag Set works fine for moms, too. It is bigger than most with an 18″ depth. Most large bags for twins don’t actually hold twice as much, but backpacks like this one do accommodate double of most things.

Features:

This is one of the highest-rated diaper backpacks on this list and part of the reason is that it comes with a lifetime warranty.

The 2 insulated pockets are on each side of the bag for easy access and there is a wipe pocket on top. There is also a special felt-lined pocket for sunglasses or a cell phone.

The HSB is a durable bag that should last well beyond the diaper years. The shoulder straps are padded and comfortable, and the zippers are unbreakable and easy to use with one hand. There is a padded slot for carrying a tablet or laptop.

Included is a 26″ x 14″ changing pad that is larger than you find with most diaper bags.

Drawbacks:

The price of this backpack is a little high, especially if you don’t think you’ll need all the room.

FAQs – Diaper Backpacks for Twins

Do I need two diaper bags for twins?

If you pack smart and light, you can get away with one diaper bag for twins.

It’s easy to think that you’ll need twice the stuff, but remember that many things can be shared. You will need more bottles and more diapers and more pacifiers and maybe an extra outfit, but wipes, the changing pad, burp cloths, toys, and even blankets can be shared.

As long as the diaper bag you choose is either large capacity or designed specifically for twins, there’s no need to double up on diaper bags. Save that money for better things! You won’t have enough arms to carry that extra bag, anyways.

Is a backpack-style diaper bag really better than a traditional diaper bag?

YES. I repeat: YES, a backpack diaper bag is the way to go. If you have twins, I emphasize the YES even more!

Kids require a lot from you, and you need free hands at all times to care for them. You don’t want to be bending down to wipe some spit up or put on their shoe and your shoulder bag keeps swinging down and sliding off your arm. Plus, if you carry one baby on each arm, where does the bag go?!

Strap the essentials to your back and be on your way. I know, it’s not as stylish, but promise yourself the gorgeous tote of your dreams for when the twins hit age 5 and all you need is some fruit snacks, a small pack of wipes, and a few toys in your to-go bag arsenal.

How can I tell if a diaper bag has a large capacity?

Bags are deceiving. Many look like they are large, but they aren’t. And even some of the physically bigger bags don’t have a smart use of space.

Here are some clues that a diaper bag has a large capacity:

  • Multiple exterior pockets, including an exterior bottle pocket or two
  • More than one main compartment
  • Elastic or zippered compartments that allow for expansion
  • An overall size bigger than 14 inches tall and 10 inches wide
