The Antsy Labs Fidget Cube is actually the original fidget cube!

The Antsy Labs fidget cube was released after a successful 2017 Kickstarter campaign. It was marketed and as “unusually addictive.”

With a reputation to uphold as the original, this cube isn’t playing around. It is high-quality and surprisingly durable. It can even handle the unnecessary roughness of a toddler (who should not play with a cube unsupervised)!

This is probably the only fidget cube with its own accessory! Antsy Labs also sells a Prism, which is described as a “companion” for the fidget cube. It’s a silicone sleeve that fits over the cube and is attached to a keychain or lanyard, so you can always keep your cube close.

Some reviewers are quick to point out that some of the fidgets on this cube do make small click noises when activated, making this not ideal for some classroom or office settings.

PROSCONS
  • The original fidget cube
  • Some fidgets cause small clicking noises
  • High-quality and durable

The theFube Fidget Cube is a cube looking to come out ahead!

This little gadget goes by the name theFube. Go ahead, say it out loud. I bet you smile.

Name aside, theFube promises to beat out the competition with its newest design. This design includes soft rounded edges and a slightly bigger-than-average size. It also includes a soft carrying case that protects the fidget cube from drops.

If your child wants to take the cube into the classroom (or maybe you want to take it to the office), theFube has silent and audible sides. Four of the six sides are silent, so be sure to skip over the audible sides when in a quiet room!

For you as the parent, you’ll enjoy the potential savings. While this toy is on the cheaper end of the spectrum, the company offers deals like 15% or 10% off if you purchase two or more PILPOC fidget cubes. Consequently, you’re now probably thinking you wouldn’t ever need more than one fidget toy, but that’s incorrect. To prevent toy burnout, experts recommend doing rotations of different fidget toys – so buy a couple!

  • Has silent and audible sides
  • Customer complaints of lack of durability
  • Includes carrying case

  • Bigger cube for better grip

The fabquality Fidget Cube Toy is a fidget cube with a sophisticated look.

While this fidget cube looks expensive, it’s actually made of silicone and ABS plastic for a soft exterior. This is best because the cube probably wouldn’t withstand drops quite like this durable fidget cube can. From a distance, it still looks cool with red accents

The cube also includes another metal fidget toy and a case making it a great gift for someone who loses things often or just needs different styles of fidget toys. Put both in the case and zip it up. Even the case can act as a fidget toy.

Th cube fits perfectly in your pocket to keep it close at hand all day. It also features both silent and audible features. For example, if you click the on/off switch slowly, it’s silent. If you press it quickly, you get a satisfying and audible click.

PROSCONS
  • Has silent and audible features
  • Customer complaints of lack of durability
  • Includes two fidget toys and a case

The Fidget Cube by Appash is a fidget cube in a galaxy all its own!

Surprisingly, a lot of fidget cubes tend to play it safe and stick with a solid color scheme. The most popular colors are black and white. It was only a matter of time before companies started breaking the mold.

Fidget cubes may be small, but they have so much potential for fun patterns. Undoubtedly, manufacturers worry about patterns being too distracting for users, but in most situations, the user isn’t actually looking at the cube while fidgeting.

That’s fine, but when it comes to showing off a new fidget cube to all their friends, your kid would probably prefer something with a bit more “wow” factor.

This fidget cube by Appash is made of durable plastic and clocks in at less than 2 ounces in weight, making it a pocket-sized priority. Moreover, the six sides have all the basic fidgets you’d come to expect, like the buttons, gears, and worry stone.

PROSCONS
  • Beautiful and out-of-this-world design
  • Customer complaints of the joystick sticking
  • Pocket-sized

Antsy Labs Spiderman Fidget Cube

The Antsy Labs Spiderman Fidget Cube is a Marvel-ous and fidgety tribute to Spiderman himself!

Got a Spiderman fan at home? They will absolutely love this Spidey fidget cube toy then!

The last entry featured the original fidget cube. This is the same cube but in a special Marvel hero design. For example, Spiderman’s face not only adds superhero fun, but it’s also the cube’s worry stone. The rest of the cube honors the spider hero with his signature colors.

Like the original fidget cube, this is a high-quality toy and is durable enough to survive whatever your kid throws at it.

Maybe Spiderman isn’t your son or daughter’s hero. How do they feel about Batman, Iron Man, Captain America, or Wonder Woman? Antsy Labs has fidget cubes featuring those heroes as well!

PROSCONS
  • The original fidget cube in a Marvel design
  • Some fidgets cause small clicking noises
  • High-quality and durable

  • Has specialized keychain accessory

The Fisher-Price My First Fidget Cube is your baby’s very own fidget cube!

Most fidget cubes are pretty tiny to make them easy to carry around. However, that small size isn’t great for the under-three crowd. Luckily, Fisher-Price is on top of it (like always, am I right?) and has given us this super adorable baby fidget cube.

Designed for ages 6 months and older, your baby will totally love this toy. Each side has a different fun sensory activity, like a switch, rollers, and a rubber joystick. My son’s tiny fingers always gravitated towards the little yellow gears.

The downside to this toy is that it’s a chunkier and heavier than you’d like in a baby toy. Basically, if your baby throws this at your head, you will feel it for a few days! I’m actually telling you this from experience – my son has quite the arm.

PROSCONS
  • A fidget cube designed for babies
  • Heavy and unsafe if baby throws it
  • 6 sides of sensory play

  • No batteries needed

The Infinity Cube Fidget Toy is a way to fidget in style!

Made from durable silicone, this infinity cube is ready to handle some serious fidgeting. This is mostly due to the fact that the silicone keeps this cube silent! Customers also like the sensory feel of the soft silicone.

Previously, this cube underwent a new design improvement, making it the best it can be. Its movements are seamless and responsive for the best experience. Likewise, it is weighted but able to fit in one hand.

An infinity cube such as this can help improve your child’s gross motor skills and hand coordination. They won’t care about that though. They’ll just love how much fun it is!

This cube comes in nine different styles. Personally, I’m impressed with the rose gold color.

PROSCONS
  • Made from soft and durable silicone
  • If cube does break, weights and brackets become choking hazards
  • Silent fidgeting

  • Comes in nine styles

The Aluminum Alloy Metal Infinity Cube is a sleek and futuristic take on an infinity cube.

This metal infinity cube looks like it comes straight from a sci-fi movie and it’s awesome. It’s made with aluminum alloy and has brass pins. The surface has been sand-blasted for the smoothest feel, while the edges have been rounded for safety.

Like with any infinity cube, the fun is in folding and unfolding the cube over and over again. While in the cube form, it’s not easy to slide into a pocket, but when folded flat, it’s the size of the average wallet.

Even so, you won’t have to shove it into a pocket if you don’t want, because this purchase includes a handy and protective carrying case.

The most notable feature of this cube is that it’s been weighted specifically for fidgeting. It’s a strange concept, but it makes sense: certain weights work best for fidgeting. Make a cube too heavy and it’s hard to maneuver. Make it too light and there’s not enough resistance. The aluminum alloy allows for just the right weight.

PROSCONS
  • Cool futuristic design
  • Complaints of paint wearing off
  • Made of aluminum alloy and brass

  • Includes carrying case

The Infinity Cube Fidget Toy by Trekbest is a beautiful infinity cube fidget toy!

First and foremost, I don’t even want to mess around and fidget with this cube; I just want to put it on a shelf and stare at it. It has this fun design that mixes both paint splatter and tye-dye effects.

If your child isn’t into the colorful paint-splatter look of this cube, it also, inexplicably, comes in a blue and white porcelain style that is very similar to every grandmother’s china. It wouldn’t have been my first choice in design but to each their own!

This Trekbest infinity cube is comprised of 8 ABS plastic cubes, held together with tough stainless steel bearings that enable the cubes to be rotated in any direction. It isn’t really intended to be solved or form different shapes. It’s just about finger fidgeting with the cubes.

If your child needs a quiet fidget toy, then this is for them. The steel bearings provide quiet movements while being rotated. Similarly, this cube is pocket-sized for easy travel.

PROSCONS
  • Colorful and fun design
  • Doesn’t come in any neutral patterns
  • Quiet

  • Pocket-sized

Most Unique Fidget Cubes

The Fidget Dodecagon is a 12-sided fidget toy that offers many options for the child who fidgets; the Decompression Ring has the original 6 sides but is shaped like a ring instead of a cube; and the Rainbow Ball Magic Cube is shaped like a spherical ball and is both a fidget toy and a puzzle.

Fidget Cube Decompression Ring

The Fidget Cube Decompression Ring is a fidget toy in an easy-to-grip ring.

I don’t actually own this one, but I’m about to add it to my Amazon cart. I’ve never seen anything like it and I want it!

The unique ring shape of this Chemstar fidget toy makes it easy to grasp and less likely to fall victim to a damaging drop. Moreover, switching fidgets is as simple as a quick twist of the ring. Spinning the ring around could be its own fidget, consequently.

Even though it is a ring and not a cube, it still has six sides and features the customary fidgets found on the original cubes. Reviews do warn that this isn’t a silent fidget toy, so save this one for at-home play.

If you’re wary of ordering such a product, worry not. The company guarantees you’ll receive this exact product and if you aren’t satisfied, you can receive a replacement or a full refund within 60 days.

You can choose between black, purple, or green. Please note, though, that the “green” is really more of a teal color.

PROSCONS
  • Unique ring design
  • Not a silent fidget toy
  • Features the traditional fidgets

  • 100% satisfaction guaranteed

The Fidget Dodecagon –12-Side Fidget Cube is a traditional fidget cube on steroids.

As we dive into the best fidget cubes, we’ll start off with a vocabulary lesson. Dodecagon is a 12-sided figure. I’m throwing this lesson in because I’m really hoping this is your first time hearing this word too.

Moving on, this dodecagon toy is a fidget cube that evolved. This fidget cube saw the traditional 6-sided cube and decided it could do better – and it did. The different sides include a little joystick, switches, and stress balls.

With its increased surface area, this dodecagon also includes some surprising widgets. Particularly, as a child of the 90s, I like the tiny stress balls with the squeezable little emoji faces. For a soothing sensory experience, the rubber spikes are a nice touch as well.

Since fidget cubes are easily misplaced, this one does have a loop that can be secured to a keychain. Unfortunately, a keychain or lanyard doesn’t come included in the purchase. Luckily, it’s a breeze to attach it to some keys or a backpack.

This fidget toy comes in 9 different colors, including black, teal, and orange. It’s currently the best-selling fidget toy on Amazon!

PROSCONS
  • Has 12 sides instead of traditional 6
  • Too large to fit comfortably in pockets
  • Comes in 9 different colors

Rainbow Ball Fidget Toy

The Rainbow Ball Fidget Toy is a fun puzzle fidget toy!

This fidget toy clearly not a cube, but I won’t tell if you won’t. Despite its spherical shape, it works very similarly to a fidget cube. The main difference is that it’s not quite as mindless as most fidget cubes, as it requires some thought.

When you first receive the Rainbow Ball, you’ll notice one of the holes is missing a ball. This is not an error but is intentional. It allows the user to the scramble up the balls. The basic objective of this fidget toy is to match the balls to the same colored hole, so the balls have to be mixed up to do so.

It sounds like an easy concept, but it more difficult than it seems. However, your child doesn’t have to use it as a puzzle toy. To transform the Rainbow Ball to a true fidget toy, your kid can just fidget by moving all the balls but ignoring the colors. Popping the balls in and out is a satisfying fidget.

Its size does create a problem. Fidget toys are designed to be pocket-sized so it can go everywhere. This sphere isn’t small enough to slip into a pocket, but can easily fit in a bag or backpack.

PROSCONS
  • Fidget toy and puzzle
  • Not pocket-sized
  • Exercises the child’s memory skills

The fidgeter needs to move the colors around and try to line up all the colors like you would on a Rubix cube.

You’re probably wondering what’s fidget-y about a round Rubix cube? It’s a fair question! You can move each color block to your heart’s content! Not to mention the colors can provide a decent distraction too.

Furthermore, you get 8 colors on each with a 4 layer cube, 6 layer cube, and an 8 layer cube.

The SHASHIBO – The Shape-Shifting Box is a magnetic and psychedelic fidget cube that can entertain for hours!

Buying Criteria for Fidget Cube Toys

What Fidgets Are Included

Are all fidgets created equal? Apparently not. Amongst fidget cube enthusiasts, there’s hierarchies and rankings of the best fidgets.

For a quick recap: the worry stone fidget is the most-hated while the gears top the lists.

With so many fidget cube options, you can pick one that truly accommodates your child’s wants and needs. Although if you find a fidget cube without a worry stone, let me know. I’m not much of a fan of it either!

Sides and Shapes

One would think that a cube would have a set number of sides and not deviate, but the word “cube” is sometimes used loosely in the fidgeting world.

The original fidget cube, straight from a Kickstarter to an overnight sensation, was a six-sided cube. Shortly after its release, competitors cropped up and started churning out their own fidget toys and some decided to evolve beyond a simple cube.

Presently, you can find a fidget “cube” in several shapes, including dodecagons, rings, and spheres. With a fidget toy, each side has its own fidget. This stands to reason, then, that more sides equal more fidgets.

Are more fidgets better? It comes down to personal preference. Consult with your child on what they’d like the most.

Fidgeting Needs

Before deciding on a final fidget cube, consider the reasons you think you’ll child will benefit from it.

For example, if you’d like to gift it to your child with ADHD so they can focus in class better, maybe avoid any complicated puzzle cubes. On the other hand, for a kid who could use a distraction or entertainment, a puzzle cube is a must-have.

If your child doesn’t have any special needs, they can still benefit from a fidget cube. It’s a toy that keeps their hands moving and keeps them away from the screens, so it’s all-around a good choice.

You may also want to consider what you’d like to get from this fidget cube. Maybe some quiet time? No problem – the cubes listed in these articles are great at consuming children’s attention for a while.

Looks

Does a fidget cube have to look cool? Well, no, if it were up to me. Still, I bet your son or daughter has an opinion on the matter!

While you may be shopping for a fidget cube for sensory and focus purposes, your kid is waiting to show it off when they aren’t using it. They’ll want a fidget cube that will make their friends jealous!

This list includes the coolest cubes out there. It’s got galaxy print and tye-dye and even one with a kaleidoscopic design! Also, be sure to check out the cubes with Marvel superhero designs.

Price

Fidget cubes shouldn’t be an expensive purchase you have to save up for.

Sure, you can shell out $30 to $50 for one fidget cube, but why would you? Physical and virtual shelves are lined with quality cubes at reasonable, and even downright cheap, prices.

Here’s the secret: buttons and gears and switches all do the same thing on expensive and on cheap cubes.

This list rounds up the best fidget cubes, but also the most affordable ones. Luckily, those categories tend to overlap. In the fidget world, more money doesn’t mean much, so save your cash!

FAQs About Fidget Cube Toys

What exactly are fidget cube toys?

Good question! Don’t feel bad if you don’t actually know what a fidget cube is. It’s a new invention. The fidget cube specifically has only been in existence for about four years at this point.

Even so, you know the predecessor of fidget toys, except, back in our day, we called them stress balls. Invented in 1988, those squeezable balls were a distraction-free way for us to fidget.

Soon after the advent of the stress ball, the fidget spinner was created in 1993. It didn’t garner much popularity then. Inexplicably, there was a major fidget spinner boom in 2017. Experts estimate that somewhere between 19 and 50 million fidget cube toys were sold in 2017 alone.

If you know what a fidget spinner is, then you’re halfway to understanding a fidget cube. Fidget spinners are held between the forefinger and thumb, then it’s just manually spun.

These spinners were made to do be something to do with your hands, so to speak. Fidget cubes take the concept to the next level.

Typical fidget cubes look like oversized dice. Instead of dots, however, each side has a so-called “fidget” or a small interactive feature. These fidgets are simple one-touch interactions, like switches, gears, and buttons.

These toys are intended to prevent the holder from fidgeting. Instead of fidgeting in their seat, the holder keeps their hands occupied with the toy.

In 2016, two brothers from Colorado started a Kickstarter project, or a crowdfunding campaign, with their idea of a fidget cube. If people liked the idea, they could donate to make the idea a reality.

As it turns out, people liked it. In fact, the fidget cube project is one of the highest-funded projects in Kickstarter history. This tiny cube raised over $6 million from over 150,000 backers.

When they were first released, they retailed for $25. Since then, the price has dropped to a more reasonable price, making it an accessible gift option.

At one point, the toy was so incredibly popular that teachers started to advocate for banning all fidget toys from schools.

In 2020, fidget cubes aren’t as wildly popular as they were, but the trend definitely hasn’t died out just yet. It probably won’t ever die out completely, because, unlike other toys, fidget cubes have true benefits for attention and focus.

What’s the intended age range for fidget cube toys?

Unfortunately, fidget cubes aren’t great toys for babies or toddlers (except for the fun Fisher-Price baby fidget toy listed above).

Fidget cubes are usually small enough to fit in the palm of a hand, which is usually small enough to be a major choking hazard. Because of this, fidget cubes should be kept away from children three years and younger.

Fidget cubes have quite the following with school-aged children. Some studies have found that fidget toys can increase students’ focus. Experts especially recommend these products for those with conditions like anxiety, OCD, ADHD, and even autism.

However, there is no cut-off age for fidget toys. You can never be too old for one! You can certainly pick up a fidget cube of your own. It’s truly a device that children and adults both gain benefits from.

How can fidget cube toys help with ADHD?

At first, it seems like a terrible idea to hand a child with ADHD a fidget cube. After all, they get so distracted already and another toy isn’t going to help that. And fidgeting? Kids with hyperactive tendencies don’t need more reasons to fidget, do they? While it seems counterintuitive, kids with ADHD benefit from fidget toys.

ADHD is the most common neurodevelopment disorder in children. The CDC estimates that there are over 6 million children with ADHD in the United States. That’s more than those diagnosed with anxiety (4 million) and depression (almost 2 million) combined.

Those with ADHD squirm and fidget, as well as having issues with paying attention. This makes it hard for them to perform and complete certain tasks.

Believe it or not, fidget toys help. If a task seems too boring or repetitive, that attention deficit pops up. It’s been found that doing two things at once, like listening to music while reading, or messing with a fidget toy while listening to a lecture, can increase productivity in children with ADHD. Why? Due to how their brains function, multitasking makes it easier to focus on the primary task for these kids.

For this to work, the secondary task has to be something the child doesn’t need to think about. An example of this is mindlessly pushing buttons or turning gears on a fidget cube.

Take note, because kids can become too accustomed to a particular fidget toy, it’s recommended to have a couple of toys to rotate through.

Are fidget cube toys good for anxiety?

Absolutely! While these cubes can help kids with ADHD focus, they help those with anxiety to not focus.

It’s a sobering fact, but anxiety is the most common mental illness. It affects children too. According to the Boston Children’s Hospital, 1 in 10 children and adolescents experience an anxiety disorder.

When a child is troubled with anxious thoughts, they don’t need help to focus on them more. They need something distracting and mindless. Therapists often recommend their anxious patients try to ground themselves by using their senses. The tactile experience of a fidget cube can be a grounding factor in an anxiety attack.

Fidget cubes replace distracting and sometimes harmful anxious habits. Nail-biting, for example, has so many drawbacks. Hands are so dirty – think about everything they touch!

Good news – it can be hard for your child to bite all his nails off if his hands are busy fiddling around with a fidget cube. Other anxious habits, like skin picking and hair twisting, can also be prevented by having a fidget cube handy.

In short, a fidget toy is considered a rapid stress management technique (RSMT). It’s like a defibrillator for anxiety. It’s effective and quick in an emergency situation, but it isn’t a long-term solution. The child’s anxiety still needs to be dealt with, whether through therapy or medication.

Can adults also benefit from fidget cube toys?

Here’s the deal: everyone fidgets. It’s not just children. It’s not just those with ADHD or anxiety. Who can really sit still for long periods of time anyway?

If you’ve ever found yourself absent-mindedly clicking a pen top or folding a piece of paper, you’ve engaged in fidgeting. Doodling and foot-tapping are other fidgeting behaviors. I stopped typing in the middle of that last sentence so I could finger drum on my desk.

Evidently, fidgeting is good for us, children and adults alike. The constant little movements associated with fidgeting help combat our “sitting culture” and bring health-positive benefits. Oh, and fidgeting burns calories, by the way.

You may not have the same wild energy as your child, but you are a fidgeter. After choosing a fidget cube for your child, go ahead and pick one for yourself. Keep it on your desk at work so you can grab it whenever you get that fidget-feeling.

Experts speculate that fidget cubes help settle our brains and thoughts and allow us to focus. If you find yourself with a looming deadline and a racing mind, fidget with a cube. Will it work for you? You can’t know until you try.
