Graco Turbo GO Folding Booster Seat Review

EDITOR’S NOTE

Graco has discontinued their Turbo GO Folding Booster. They do offer the Graco RightGuide Portable Seatbelt Trainer, but it is not widely available and it doesn’t fold. For the same convenience as the Turbo GO, check out the Mifold booster. This little booster is tiny but effective. It’s perfect for traveling because of its small size and it works for children up to 100 pounds.

The updated design of the Mifold booster is even better than the Turbo GOmifold Original grab-and-go Car Booster Seat, Slate Gray, Compact and Portable Booster for Travel, Carpooling and More, Foldable Child Booster Seat Fits into Glove Box and Backpack, Slate Grey

Graco brings a new easy and convenient booster seat to the market to make life easier for parents and children.

Not only is this seat portable, but it also folds and unfolds easily for storage in a backpack or for a child to take with them wherever they go. No more needing three or four booster seats to keep with everyone your child might drive with, and no more lugging around a bulky seat.

Let’s check out the other great features of the Graco Turbo GO Folding Booster Seat.

Graco’s extremely simple and easy-to-use Turbo GO Folding Booster Seat puts your child in the right range for the proper seat belt alignment, which keeps them safe.

This seat comes with a few added benefits, as it is easy to carry and the sides fold down for easier travel.

Even better, the seat is so simple that children can buckle themselves in unassisted. Make sure your children know the right way to buckle before allowing them to buckle themselves into any booster seat, though.

The Seat

The seat only offers a place to sit and the arms to line up the seat belt over the child. No headrest, no cup holders, no-frills. With this seat, you only get a better position for your child to use the vehicles built-in seat belt.

If you prefer a high back car seat, you may want to check out the best booster seat options.

What’s great about this seat is the portability. Your child can easily carry this seat with them. They can take the seat with them to use in a friend’s car, grandma’s car, a second parent’s car, or any other transportation needs your family may need.

Finally, the seat pulls apart almost in half and the belt positioners fold in to allow for portability. The seatback easily folds in and out in just seconds for both children and adults to allow for easy use and even easier setup.

Price & Space

The price of the Turbo GO Folding Booster Seat will easily fit into any budget. An economical price allows you to purchase multiples. Keep one at grandma’s house or in a spare car. Although, because the seat is so portable, you really don’t need to buy a second and you can save even more money.

The seat takes up very little space at 14 inches across with the belt guides setup. This means you can fit three of these booster seats across the back seat of most sedans. If you have three children in car seats or boosters, this means the Turbo GO Booster Seat will fit better in the smaller middle seat and allow you to fit three seats across.

Appearance & Care

The cover of the seat comes off in one easy movement with hooks in the back for attachment. Washing is easy – toss it in the washing machine and drip dry. Avoid using bleach and the dryer.

Graco’s booster comes in four different colors including bright pink, a grass green, a slate blue, and a plain black. Mind you, these colors are only the fabric of the seat, not the seat themselves.

However, the belt positioners are consistently red across the board and the base remains dark gray despite the fabric color.

Installation

Installing the seats takes no time at all. The back of the seat folds in for portability. Flip the seat over and unfold the folded in section. This will automatically release the belt positioners. Now the child is ready to sit and use the vehicle’s seat belt.

The seat belt threads around the belt positioners. Make sure the seat belt sits flush against both belt positioners for the safest and most secure fit.

A shoulder belt positioner is included too, so you can ensure a proper fit of the seat belt over your child’s shoulder as well.

The seat can be used anywhere in a car, except the front seat. The back seat is always the safest place for any child to sit.

Safety

A few warnings inside the instruction manual will help you keep your child safe.

Always replace a car seat or booster seat after an accident. Also, the American Academy of Pediatricians (AAP) recommends that children use a car seat with a built-in harness as long as possible. This would be until they reach the maximum forward-facing weight and/or height of their car seat.

Most children require a booster seat until they reach 4 feet 10 inches (or 145 cm) in height. Make sure to check your state’s requirements, as they can change often.  Also, check federal laws as those often change as well.  Finally, check AAP and NHTSA recommendations for car seat usage.

Store the booster seat manual in a small pocket on the bottom of the seat for easy reference in the future.

Also, Graco car seats, like all the other top manufacturers, meet and often exceed federal safety requirements or they would not be permitted to sell them. But some seats excel even further in the area of safety, like the Turbobooster that received a top award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

Finally, the booster seat has been engineered and tested to meet or exceed US standard FMVSS 213, as well as tested for crashes and to meet or exceed U.S. safety standards.

Other Considerations

The seat cannot be used on an airplane, as most airlines are not designed for booster seats. By the time a child is old enough for a booster, they can easily buckle themselves into an airplanes lap belts as well as tighten them sufficiently for safety purposes.

Make sure to check all stickers on the seat for important information like date of manufacture. This seat can be used for ten years after the date of manufacture. This does mean you may be able to use the booster seat for more than one child, depending on what other seats you have already purchased. The sticker for the date is on the underside of the seat.

Issues

The only real issue with the seat is that it does not offer a handle for easy carry. If the seat is meant to be carried by the child who will hold it, a bag or a handle would go a long way to help carry the seat between places and vehicles.

If you want a seat with a handle when used as a backless booster then try Graco’s TurboBooster TakeAlong, which offers a lot of helpful features as well.

Lastly, the seat only offers the bare minimum in padding. The seat will not work well for very long road trips. Some children may instantly reject the seat because of the low cushion level and no way to improve the situation.

If your child tends to be picky about cushion then you may want to look at other options. Another option would be the Mifold Booster Seat which folds even smaller and sits on the car’s actual seat with less interference.

Final Thoughts

Enjoy the luxury of portability with Graco’s Turbo GO Folding Booster Seat.

Children can easily pack their seat into a bag or backpack to take with them wherever they go. Parents will love the ease of use and safety features.

This booster seat is a great option for a parent who needs to transfer their children from one car to another or who are on a tight budget.

The only issues with the seat are inconsequential, such as no handle and limited padding.
