Best All-Terrain Strollers of the Year

The Graco FastAction Travel System, the BOB Gear Revolution Flex 3.0, the Chicco Activ3 Air, and the Baby Jogger City Mini GT2 are all Amazon Choice strollers, which means they are well rated, well priced, and available to ship immediately. However, the Joovy Zoom is ranked as the number 1 new release all-terrain stroller. While not as popular or as highly rated by Amazon, the Jeep Deluxe Patriot and the Baby Trend Xcel are both rated well by Amazon shoppers.

Joovy Zoom Lightweight Jogging Stroller

Joovy Zoom Lightweight Jogging Stroller Featuring High Child Seat, Shock-Absorbing Suspension, Extra-Large Air-Filled Tires, Parent Organizer, One-Handed Fold, and Easy One-Hand Fold, Slate
Popularity

The Joovy Zoom Lightweight Jogging Stroller functions a lot like the other best all-terrain strollers on this list, but with slightly larger tires and a sleek design.

The stroller is ten percent lighter than other strollers and folds in half making it a great value compared to other high-end all-terrain strollers.

The price though, makes this stroller a win. While it works as a high-end stroller, but with a much more affordable price.

Let’s start with the basics.

Like the majority of strollers, this one has a steel frame and rubber wheels. A five-point harness keeps the kiddos buckled in tight. A multi-position, padded, and reclining seat allows children to sit or sleep comfortably. The recline offers webbed fabric for breathability.

Enjoy a quick look at your baby through the small window.

Hello! This stroller might be perfect as you can even adjust the front tire to swivel and work on any terrain or lock in place for long runs.

The stroller even comes with a pump for the tires and a great parent organizer to keep mom’s and baby’s stuff organized on the go.

Store anything you need in the underneath storage basket and mesh pockets on the side for your tot to store items too.

You can even add an infant car seat attachment (sold separately) if you want to run with a baby under 6 months of age.

Issues

A few people had the wheel fall off, so be doubly sure you attach the wheels correctly to avoid user error and product error.

If you want to connect a Graco car seat to this stroller, you can do so easily without using an adapter! Simply click it onto the stroller.

Enjoy the one-hand fold as you put this stroller away. No worries about it falling over either, because this stroller is designed to stand up even when folded.

Issues

The BOB Revolution Flex 3.0 Jogging Stroller costs more than the Baby Jogger City Mini GT2 above, but comes with fabulous reviews and some big differences.

First, BOB’s Flex stroller supports up to 75 pounds instead of 65. Also, use for a maximum height of 44 inches.

Even better, the stroller uses Lunar ultra-reflective fabric for safety, even in the dark.

The wheels swivel and lock in the front. Also, the tires come air-filled for that all-terrain experience. Think mountain bike-style suspension system.

Adjust the handlebar to nine different positions for comfort for mom, dad, or anyone else. Even better, the handlebar includes a safety wrist strap so the stroller cannot run away from you. Fold up in a snap to a compact portable size.

Keep your baby safe, too, with a five-point harness, an almost flat recline, and a UPF 50+ canopy with a peekaboo window for sun protection. The stroller even comes with an extra-large cargo basket, a cell phone pocket, and six storage pockets. This stroller is ready to hit the baby-friendly hiking trails for the entire day.

Pick from Graphite Black or Lunar Black.

Issues

While you can purchase accessories, for the price, a snack tray should come included. Other accessories are purchasable as well, but one would expect strollers to come standard with expected add-ons.

This stroller weighs almost 29 pounds, which can be difficult to store when folded.

The Chicco Activ3 Air Jogging Stroller comes in at a mid-range price with built-in features that other strollers lack.

Like the other strollers, this one includes all-terrain tires, but these are foam-filled. The adjustable Flex Core suspension ensures a smooth ride on either flat or rough terrain.

When done, fold the stroller down with one hand into three different configurations with quick-release wheels.

The front tire can swivel for rough ground or lock it with the push of a button at the top of the stroller for jogging or smooth surfaces. The hand brake locks or unlocks right from the parent control console near the dual cup holders. Adjust the push handle to three different positions for short and tall parents.

Also, the stroller includes a tether for control. Keep your phone in a small pocket next to your water bottle. 3D Air Mesh gives your baby a ventilated resting position with a reclined seat. Your little one will love the bumper bar for safety and support. Remove the bar for car seat use with either KeyFit or Fit2 car seats.

Finally,  like with most jogging strollers, store diaper bags underneath in the storage basket. And use the extendable canopy to block your baby’s eyes from the harsh sun. Use the tether to keep the stroller from running away.

Issues

This otherwise fabulous stroller does not offer a child bar storage for holding drinks or a snack.

Also, despite the weight of 27 pounds, this best all-terrain stroller can only be used for up to 50 pounds.

The three tires make this a hiking stroller with forever air rubber tires with all-wheel suspension. All three tires are the same size for a smooth ride for your baby. Stay on smooth surfaces or move around mountains, snow, and more with agility.

The hand-operated parking brake allows for easy control and steering. Fold the stroller when done with one hand to store in the garage, trunk, or your home. The storage basket allows you to take a diaper bag too, or even do some shopping.

If you plan to use the stroller for an infant, this stroller pairs with the City Go Infant Car Seat with the included adapters.

Adjust the calf support so baby can sleep with legs up or down. You can also let your little one recline to near-flat for a relaxing walk. Also, parents can adjust the handlebars for comfort and height. A canopy overhead protects little eyes from harsh sunlight. Don’t worry, a peekaboo window lets you see if your little one is asleep.

The stroller even ways less than most all-terrain strollers, at just over 22 pounds.

Issues

A few consumers complained about the calf rest as it takes up foot space and does not function on an optimal level.

Also, while the stroller works great on the trails, it’s not the best option for an airport or travel. You may want a more traditional stroller for airport visits.

An adjustable canopy protects from the sun and is UPF 50+. Once you’re done, fold it up in one easy movement for storage.

Enjoy the two cupholders and clear storage space where you can place your cell phone.  Just like other jogging strollers, you can lock the front wheel and this stroller includes a wrist strap that you can wear while jogging.

Issues

Some buyers have complained that the front wheel will shake when they jog. The extendable canopy does not extend that far either.

Baby Trend Xcel Jogger Stroller

If the other two strollers are out of your price range, then you may find the Baby Trend Xcel Jogger Stroller suits your needs and budget.

While not as high-end, it includes wonderful features designed to make hiking a breeze.

Large bicycle tires allow you to roll over almost any surface while still allowing your baby to sleep. Front swivel wheels help with easy maneuvering, or you can lock the front wheel for jogging. Fold up small for travel or storage.

Next, the padded seat reclines for comfort. A five-point harness keeps baby in the stroller, while a large canopy protects them from the sun. Store the diaper bag in the storage basket underneath and snacks in the tray on the front.

A few other extras include a tether and a cup holder for mom.

Also, the stroller works with Baby Trend car seats. You can pick from 14 different color options.

Issues

Unlike the higher-end strollers, this one only lasts for 50 pounds, despite weighing just over 28 pounds itself.

A few customers had issues with pumping air into the front wheel.

Moreover, customers had issues with customer service with any issue. The price is very, very nice though.

Jeep Sport Utility All-Terrain Stroller

Love Jeep? Then you’re going to love the Jeep Sport Utility All-Terrain Stroller! Enjoy this stroller through the young stages of your child’s life (while they are 50 lbs or less).

With this all-terrain stroller, you can attach the baby’s car seat (compatible with select car seats) to it with the included adapter. In addition, you can face the seat so that baby faces you or faces outwards, depending on their age. For toddlers, the footrest and recline can be adjusted as needed.

Features include a canopy with a peek-a-boo window, SPF 50 sun visor, adjustable handle, 5-point safety harness, swing-away child bar, and a bag for including all your (and your child’s) things.

As for the wheels, you’ll get 8″ front wheels that you can lock and swivel and 12″ back wheels with brakes. Once you’re done strolling, simply fold up this stroller flat for a compact fit. Also includes a latch to keep it all together!

Fun fact – if you enjoy Disney or are planning to go soon, this stroller meets their size requirements!

Issues

At 38 lbs, this is a heavy all-terrain stroller. You may consider purchasing a lighter-weight all-terrain stroller if you will be taking it in and out of your car often, or if you need the relief that a lightweight stroller offers.

Baby Trend Expedition Double Jogger

FAQs – All-Terrain Strollers

What’s the difference between an all-terrain stroller and a jogging stroller?

Jogging strollers work on a smooth surface, while all-terrain strollers work on a rugged surface.

The main two differences are that the tires on a jogging stroller do not need to be air or foam-filled, and the front wheel should look like a jogging stroller. If you plan on jogging or using the stroller on flat surfaces, you may want to lock the front wheel.

As for an all-terrain stroller, you’ll want sturdy wheels and a swivel front wheel. This, in combination with a good suspension system, will help you navigate over gravel, rocks, wood chips, or any other rugged surface.

Do I need an all-terrain stroller?

Not everyone needs a hiking stroller. If you tend to be someone who goes off-road or travels to exotic and fun locations, you may need one of the best hiking strollers on this list.

Otherwise, you should be fine with a regular stroller if you plan to stick close to home, on the roads, sidewalks, or the mall.

All hiking strollers safer than other strollers?

The best hiking strollers can keep your baby safer than regular strollers, as they often have better suspension than traditional strollers. This helps keep baby from bumping around as much.

However, all-terrain hiking strollers are not the best for an infant unless you use an infant car seat to make a jogging stroller travel system. When your infant can hold their head up without assistance, then you can safely use a hiking stroller without an infant car seat. Check with your doctor first if you are unsure if your baby is ready for a seat without the infant car seat.
