Hey!

Anything from Earth’s Best is great in my book. I love that their rice cereal is made from brown rice and not white rice. Plus, it’s organic and non-GMO. It has a fine texture that dissolves nicely.

I think it would make a great first cereal for any baby. I just chose to feature the multi-grain variety because it’s great for older babies with a more advanced palate, but I honestly love all the Earth’s Best baby cereals!

Heya!

So out of all of these, the Gerber and Earth’s Best are the only ones that are really flakey, but they are pretty fine flakes. The Happy Baby has a pretty thick texture, and so does the WutsUp Baby and NutureMe choices. The oatmeal and barley ones are somewhere in between in terms of size and texture. All of these are meant for babies that are starting to chew and enjoy textured solids. I will say that in my experience, the Gerber dissolves the best.

Before adding cereal to a bottle, be sure to check with your pediatrician. They may have a recommendation for the type or brand that works best for bottle feeding.

Good luck! Please let us know which cereal works out for you!

Thank you for the helpful info. I have a question about the top three cereals. Would you consider those flaky or ground up? I am looking for cereal as a thickener for my baby who has silent aspiration. I lot of resources say to avoid the flaky kind since it makes drinking thickened milk through a nipple challenging.

Thank you.

Hi! Babies always go through some bowel habit changes when you change their food around. I’m guessing that the fiber in the oatmeal and the fruits and veggies is the culprit. If your little one likes oatmeal, you could try the Earth’s Best Organic Multi-Grain option, because it still has the oatmeal, but you also get barley and spelt, which should help to slow down her digestion just a tad. My no-fail options for my babies are a bit of organic rice cereal mixed in with the food until the stools slow down, as well as mashed bananas once a day. Those always seemed to help when there were lots of dirty diapers! And of course, you can’t rule out teething as a cause…

So my 6 month old has been doing Gerber oatmeal for about 1.5 months. We recently started more solids into her diet. She never had problems with the oatmeal, and now her tummy is digesting the fruits and veggies super quick. This is causing lots of stools and then in turn making a diaper rash. So I was looking for a cereal that may be slower for her to process and help offset the fruits and veggies that run through her. I obviously don’t want her constipated, but what cereal would you recommend? Thank you!
