Hello!

Yep, the American Academy of Pediatrics explains that bunk beds and standard loft beds are dangerous and pose a risk of injury. As such, they recommend that kids under 6 never be allowed to sleep on the top bunk. See their full recommendation here: https://www.aappublications.org/content/33/7/22.6.

For that reason, we haven’t put any standard loft beds or bunk beds on this list. The loft beds that we have featured are significantly shorter than a standard loft bed, which greatly reduces the risk of injury.

As long as the other loft bed safety guidelines are followed, like putting the bed in a corner and ensuring that the guardrails are adequate, it should be a safe sleep space for an older toddler.

Thanks for commenting! We’re glad that you value child safety, because we do too!

Wanted to share so that safer options could be substituted.
